From Z Miller

I met David 42 years ago and vividly remember that day. I had just moved from Texas and did not know a single person in Charlotte. Not a soul. Because of David, I was warmly welcomed into his social group. In fact, I know many of you here today because of David Yarborough. David was a connector. (More on Allie in a second as she was not with David the day I met him.)

This brings me to one of David best traits: He was a devoted man. David showed his devotion in many, many ways. Whether it was his tennis, fine food and wine, his world travels, writing, knowledge of world affairs and of course being a devoted friend.

But David’s devotion to Allie, Zoe and Eli stands alone. Shortly after meeting David, he invited me to meet Allie at their house on Radcliffe Avenue. Let’s cut to the chase, David adored Allie. I’m not exaggerating. David’s devotion to Allie knew no equal.

So then, I got to know “David” as half of “David & Allie.” It was just “David & Allie,” like one word—David&Allie—just as it is hard to say peanut butter without saying jelly.

David’s devotion to Allie evolved into David & Allie & Zoe & Eli. Non-stop devotion. Just endless and also admirable.

The years have rolled by, but David’s devotion to Allie and then Zoe & Eli has never waivered.

I’ll stop at that, but for now, so long David. Thank you for being a devoted friend for 42 years.
