From Olin Harbury

I'm so sorry to hear of David's passing. I hope the sun shines brightly on you and your family, and that you find peace.

It's been 20+ years since you and David graciously gave us your home for the night after our house fire. Not sure where you ended up that night but it was incredibly kind.

David gave me a jacket that night - pretty handy since it was winter and I didn't have one at that particular moment. I still have it. It doesn't fit me too well, and I didn't have anything to do with the "American Iron Reduction Startup team 1998". I get a few questions about it :)

I have plenty of other jackets now, but I still wear the one he gave me - every year, mostly in the winter on days with questionable weather. It reminds me of him, and that there are people that good, kind and helpful in my community and circle of friends. A coat with special powers. It puts a smile on my face, and gives me good energy every time I wear it.

A few years later while going through a divorce, I saw David at the US Team Trials . He was head of USACK and helped me reconnect with the kayak & canoe racing community. It was a timely boost for me.

While I didn't see him all that often, I was always glad when I did.

I'm glad to have happened to cross paths with him earlier this year. As always, bright, curious and interested in everything. He will be sorely missed.

My best to you and your family,

Olin Harbury
